A personal note from Maria Sajecki, Stephen's Mum
Thousands of families are facing cancer in our community right now. I know from personal
experience that your support makes a difference. When my son Stephen was battling a
rare form of adrenal cancer, it helped us so much to have such high quality cancer care
close to home.
The extraordinary compassion and care we received at Grand River Hospital is something my
family and I will never forget. Your support plays a major role in making these services
possible.
I know in my heart that Stephen would be proud to share his story with you. Especially if
hearing his story inspired you to reach out and help others today.
Maria
P.S. I thought you might enjoy hearing a very special song that was written for Stephen
just before he passed away. It was written by Stephen's close friend, Christen Zuch, to
show him how much his friends and family cared about him. Hearing this song for the first
time was one of the only times I ever saw my son cry — it touched him so deeply. I hope
it inspires you to help others as they battle this horrible disease.

How Supportive Care Helps
Receiving a cancer diagnosis can be a life-changing experience. Thanks to community support,
Grand River Hospital's Supportive Care Program is here to help.
All cancer centre patients receive the individual attention of a supportive care coordinator.
These coordinators help connect patients, family members and friends to the full umbrella of
services offered to those in need. From emotional support to nutritional therapy, wellness
workshops to spiritual care and pain and symptom management, the volunteers and staff in
the Supportive Care Program make the cancer journey a little less lonely.
These vital, free services are only possible with the continued generosity of our community.
To help Grand River Hospital provide the best local cancer care, please make your
secure online donation now.
